Owen is the director of Bristol Film Festival; he founded the Festival in his home city, with the inaugural weekend taking place in March 2016, and still plays an active role in curating the annual programme and organising the busy events schedule.

Bristol Film Festival focusses on screening classic films in iconic locations and landmark across the city, creating unique experiences celebrating a diverse range of cinema. Notable recent highlights include Top Gun underneath the wings of Concorde, Titanic aboard SS Great Britain for the 20th anniversary of the premiere, and the ever-popular Horror In The Caves series at Halloween, in a specially built cinema deep within Redcliffe Caves.

The programme ontinues to grow, with July 2023 seeing the launch of Clifton Summer Screenings. Today, Owen and the Festival team annually host around 150 events across 15 different venues to a total audience of over 15,000 guests; Owen can often be found introducing the films, including recent keynote speeches for the centenary of Nosferatu in St Mary Redcliffe and the 80th anniversary of Casablanca at the Royal West Academy of England.

Owen is also passionate about ensuring younger people have clear and up-to-date information on pursuing careers in the arts and events. He has spoken as a guest to students at the University of the West of England and BoomSatsuma on events management and festival curation.
