“Owen has great vision and ambition, both of which are clearly evident in his work as a filmmaker and composer. He has great generosity of spirit and an instinct for collaborative endeavour”

ABOUT

Owen Franklin is a writer, filmmaker and composer who enjoys the challenges and rewards of engaging in all stages of a project through from conception to completion.

Owen has always had an interest in and been attracted to storytelling, particularly through the medium of film. He began writing screenplays whilst studying English Literature at Durham University as an undergraduate. This process culminated with his first feature-length film script She Moved Through The Fair, which Owen produced and directed as a microbudget feature film.

Since She Moved Through The Fair, Owen has written two further feature films, Ruthless and Rockumentary. For all three projects, he directed, produced and composed the soundtracks, exploring the process of adapting a script for the screen.

In addition to his indie feature film projects, Owen has developed several longer form scripts for television, and is also working on a radio/podcast series. He writes across a range of genres, but his work frequently concerns the experiences of the ‘outsider’ and looks to offer new perspectives on the subject matter, be these witty, challenging or thought-provoking.

As the founder and director of Bristol Film Festival, Owen is actively involved with the flourishing arts scene in his home city, organising over 150 classic film screenings a year across a range of iconic local venues.
